Groupie’s Guide to Truck Festival: What to See & Do

After a four year cooling off period for some (Willow) and a first time camping-at-a-festival experience for others (Hollie). Groupie is gracing the fields of Truck Festival, and we intend to do all the things to make us seem as cool as possible, and to interact with as many cool people as possible to try and learn their tricks and steal their coolness. Here’s our guide of what to do and what bands to see when you get there. If you’re there, say hi, give us love, let us steal your cool.

Thursday:

SOLV - Thursday 22:45 Market Stage

She haunts me in my dreams, she is beauty, she is grace, she scares me, I love her. - Willow

The Wombats Thursday 21:00 Truck Stage

So apparently Thursdays headliners are a three piece indie rock band, not a bunch of cute fluffy Australian animals? - confused by this, Hollie

Swim Deep - Thursday 19:30 Truck Stage

A staple of our youth, I hope they play Honey, ooh ooh baby. - Willow

Joely - Thursday 16:30 Truck Stage

Going to get our souls resurrected via folk pop. - Willow

Friday:

Shrek -  Friday 23:00 The Rockin’ Chair

After making your way to the festival, setting up camp, enjoying your first day of live music, what’s a better way to end your Friday night than watching arguably the most iconic film of all time - Shrek. - Hollie (see you there)

Two Door Cinema Club - Friday 21:30 Truck Stage

What does that even mean? We don’t know, but what we do know is that this is a must see for anyone who was indie before it was ironic. - unironically, Rosie

Spector - Friday 20:30 The Nest

One of my favourite bands in the whole world. Have never made a bad song. Fred, held my hand once. - I love you, Willow

Barrioke - Friday 20:30 The Rockin’ Chair

The legend, the icon and all round nice guy, Barry from Eastenders takes to the stage to host an hour of karaoke. - need I say more? Hollie

Opus Kink - Friday 19:00 The Nest

Offensively well dressed guys churning out a filthy mixture of jazz and punky guitar riffs, sign me up! - kisses, Rosie

Opus Kink by Mags Ochalek - Groupie Magazine Issue 3

Heavy Lungs - Friday 17:45 The Nest

They’re back, and they’re better than ever. Is Danny Nedelko going to look at me like he hates me again? Or are we in love? Can't wait to find out… - Willow

The Vaccines - Friday 19:45 Truck Stage

I used to listen to Norgaard on my way to school when I was 17, it changed my brain chemistry, so yeah. - thanks for the mental damage, Willow

Wunderhorse - Friday 19:00 Market Stage

I don’t know why they’re called that but they always sound great. - just horsing around, Briony

Kate Nash - Friday 18:15 Truck Stage

YOU SAID I MUST EAT SO MANY LEMONS BECAUSE I AM SO BITTER - his friends were in fact fitter, Willow

Mae Muller - Friday 17:15 Truck Stage

I’ve heard she sometimes dresses up like a cowgirl and it’s not a want it’s a need to see it IRL. - Willlow

Somebody’s Child - Friday 16:15 Truck Stage

Groupie alumnus, wonder if he’s THAT shy on stage. - professionally, Willow

Ivo graham Friday 13:50 The Rockin’ Chair

Eton graduate, task master royalty and easily the most adorable comedian on the line up - comedically, Hollie

Saturday:

Alt-J - Saturday 21:30 Truck Stage

13 year old me is dying. One of my friend’s boyfriends in year 9 played guitar and he showed her the music video for Breezeblocks. I remember seeing it the next day in school, I had nightmares for weeks but I kept going back. Alt-J were basically my musical awakening. - now musically awake, Rosie

Connie Constance - Saturday 19:30 The Nest

‘Monty Python’ got me through a breakup, Connie is an indie-rock goddess. ‘Miss Power’ is a dramatic and passionate album which unpicks some difficult themes. Yet expect to feel elated - she’s the older sister we all want hyping us. - love, Rosie

Maisie Peters - Saturday 18:15 Truck Stage

I’ve bleached my hair before, I know I shouldn't be blonde, I don’t suit it, but she makes me want to be blonde. God she’s so cool, Maisie will you be my girlfriend <3 - yours forever, Willow

PORIJ - Saturday 17:45 Market Stage

They supported Coldplay, I love them, I think they’re wicked. - Viva la PORIJ, Willow

Not to be confused with Porridge (Radio), Porij give you funky bass-lines, swirling electronics and some fierce and high-energy grooves. Expect it to be heavy on the bass. - Rosie

English Teacher - Saturday 15:30 Market Stage

Feel like everyone was a little bit in love with their English teacher? Safe to say the trend continues here, everyone should be excited to see this quirky quartet. - love notes in class, Rosie

Deadletter - Saturday 14:30 Market Stage

One of my favourite pots and pans sounding bands honestly. - what a way to wake up, Briony

English Teacher by Rosie Carne - Groupie Magazine Issue 3

Sunday:

Royal Blood - Sunday 21:30 Truck Stage

Genuinely and sickly excited to see if they flip us off after their set, I’ll giggle. - Willow

Everything Everything - Sunday 20:30 Market Stage

A melting pot of obscure references and allusions, Everything Everything are eclectic and dynamic, cranking out some absolute bangers from all ends of the musical spectrum. - live from the melting pot, Rosie

Self Esteem - Sunday 19:45 Truck Stage

Fresh from supporting Blur, Self Esteem brings her Sheffield charm to Truck. My love for this woman knows no bounds. I would die for her. Find me in the crowd screaming along, crying, ending all my toxic situationships and barking at any strange men that come my way. - crying already, Hollie

Feet - Sunday 17:45 The Nest

You either love of them or you hate them. Cheesy. Responsible for the spike in sales of Linda McCartney products in the festive season. One of those bands that you can bump into anywhere and everywhere. First saw them supporting our favourite Irish boys Inhaler a few years ago, most recently seen in a small underground bar in Soho. - vegetarianly, Briony

Rachel Chinouriri - Sunday 17:45 Market Stage

The most beautiful girl in the world, who writes the best indie pop songs also in the world. Last time I saw her she had this incredible neon green two piece on and I’m so excited for her outfit at Truck. - your biggest fan, Willow

Pale Waves - Sunday 17:15 Truck Stage

I based my whole style on Heather Baron-Gracie for years. Still wish I could be as cool as her. - adoringly, Willow

Stone - Sunday 16:45 Market Stage

Honestly because I cannot get that left right forward song out of my head. - Briony

Prima Queen - Sunday 15:15 Truck Stage

Saw them support The Big Moon a few months ago and they’re just really quite cool actually. - supportively, Briony

Prima Queen by Willow Shields - Groupie Magazine Issue 2

Sean Walsh - Sunday 14:15 The Rockin’ Chair

blink 182 stan and Matt Hancock’s bestie will be bringing his comedy to Truck on Sunday afternoon. I expect us all to be singing ed Sheeran’s ‘perfect’ - Hollie

The Last Dinner Party - Sunday 13:45 Market Stage

Finally caved in and listened to them and I get it. The girlies were right. - girlishly, Briony

My friend Tom said they’re a “big girl slay”. I love my feral girls. - relating to the “girls be like” meme, Willow

Cowboyy - Saturday 12:15 Market Stage

Noisy, fun and technically unpredictable, Cowboyy will give you some shit-hot guitar solos to get a bit riotous to. What more can you want to wake you up on a Sunday? - I’ll be tired, Rosie

The Deep Blue - Sunday 11:45 The Nest

I will be hungover, feeling sick, smelly and in a foul mood. But cup of coffee in hand I will be at the nest (probably sat down) supporting the girls! - the bluest of blues, Willow

The Deep Blue by Marieke Hulzinga - Groupie Magazine Issue 3
